Understanding Merit Badges

The Importance of Merit Badges in Scouting

Merit badges are a cornerstone of the scouting experience, offering scouts the chance to explore new interests, develop specialized skills, and gain recognition for their achievements. At Troop 223, we categorize these badges into four groups: Required, Troop, Patrol, and Other. Each category provides unique opportunities for growth, encouraging scouts to challenge themselves and broaden their horizons. Before starting a new badge, scouts must consult with a counselor to ensure they are prepared and approved to begin their journey.
