Mike Lanning congratulating Jamie Montgomery

Granada Hills, Jan 28, 2010

Forty Assistant Scoutmasters and wives joined Mike Lanning on Thursday, Jan 28, 2010 to honor our own Jamie Montgomery with the Silver Beaver Award, a local Council’s highest official honor conferred on a volunteer Scouter. After a private reception hosted by the Troop for Jamie and Scout officials, we joined 250 other Scouters and families for this year’s group of twelve Recipients, selected from over 6000 volunteers. We know Jamie as an Assistant Scoutmaster for the past ten years, as a backpack leader on numerous High Adventure Trips for two Eagle Scout sons, with a third on the way, as a superb merit badge counselor, and as an incredibly effective auctioneer at our annual fundraiser. In addition, Jamie has also served as a member of our Council’s Executive Board for those same ten years, sponsoring one of our golf tournaments and raising over a million dollars in operating funds for the Council and capital funds for Emerald Bay.

The Troop joins the Council in thanking Jamie for his enormous contributions to the Youth of our Community and in thanking Annabel Montgomery for her partnership with Jamie in all of their fundraising and the parenting of two of the most effective and well liked Eagle Scouts and Senior Patrol leaders in the 58 year history of the Troop.

Past Silver Beaver recipients from the Troop are Andy Breech, Mike Bredenbeck, Scott Wagenseller, Kevin Niles, Larry Kirven, Ken Simpson, Ron Flury, Jaime Montgomery, Philip Alford, and Mike Lanning.
