Timetable

The Timetable begins with early advancement for Tenderfoot, 2nd Class and 1st Class ranks, and moves on to the 12 required merit badges (MBs) for Eagle shown below. It also lays out the required Community Service hours and required Leadership for each Rank. Advancement and Ranks are earned by each Class (e.g. 1st year, 2nd year, 3rd year) in increments at regular Troop Meetings and Campouts throughout the year.

Note: open the attached file at the bottom of this page for a printable version of the Troop Advancement Timeline.

Summarily the program is:

  • New Scouts – Earn Tenderfoot rank along with the Swimming MB on Aquatics Day, which prepares them for Rowing MB and avoids the swim test at Emerald Bay.

  • 1st Years – Earn 2nd Class and 1st Class Scout along with four MBs.

  • 2nd Years – Earn Star Scout Rank along with five MBs. Star Rank Leadership requirements are satisfied through serving as Den Chiefs at the Cub Scout Pack 223, equally divided between the Fall and Spring. The 2nd Yr. Class Instructors coordinate with the Pack.

  • 3rd Years – Earn Life Rank along with two MBs. Life Rank required Leadership requirements are satisfied through serving as Patrol Leader, divided between Fall and Spring. Patrol Leadership Training is related to but separate from Advancement.

  • 4th Years – focus on completing the requirements for Eagle including their Eagle Project. In addition, they work on any requirements they may have missed in the preceding years.

Elective Merit Badges

Elective Merit Badges are also earned along the way, such as Railroad MB on the train trip to San Diego, and the MB the Patrols earn as a function of Patrol Leadership. Our Eagle Scouts typically have enough MBs to earn Eagle Palms (5 or 10 additional MBs beyond the required 21).
